Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has faced a severe backlash after making a video that seemingly mocks the English-speaking abilities of Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan.
The 54-year-old, now a prominent commentator and broadcaster, appeared in a video that went viral on social media, where he imitated the speaking style of Rizwan, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman.
The clip features Hogg participating in a staged interview alongside a content creator portraying Rizwan. During their conversation, Hogg humorously imitates Rizwan’s unique way of speaking while discussing various cricket-related subject.
“I think Australians would be ashamed of Brad hogg now,” said one user.
“This is terrible. Brad Hogg should not be doing that. Players are at that level for their cricketing skills, not their ability to communicate in English,” another commented.
“Wrong. You can’t shame someone publicly. Not done in the right spirit,” said another.
“We living in the subcontinent should get out of this colonial mindset. English is not our language or mother tongue. Also, our players should speak Urdu and take your translator with it. This is our National pride, not English. Pathetic unprofessionalism by ex-cricketers!” commented a third.
Known for his modesty and composed demeanor, Rizwan has frequently been the focus of comments about his communication in interviews. Nevertheless, he is widely respected for his genuineness, work ethic, and dedication to cricket.
