SUKKUR: At least 13 people were killed when a passenger coach overturned due to over-speeding near Sukkur.
The passenger coach was going to Karachi from Multan when it crashed on the National Highway near Pano Aqi. At least 13 people were killed and 30 others were injured in the accident.
An emergency was declared in all hospitals in Rohri, Pano Aqil and Sukkur after the accident. Rescue officials said that the death toll could rise further as several injured remained in critical condition. The cause of the incident is said to negligence by the driver.
Most of the passengers were reportedly asleep at the time of the accident. The condition of several of the injured is said to be critical. The dead and injured include women and children.
According to Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Rana Adeelr, the rescue operation has been completed and the bodies and injured have been shifted to CMH Pano Aqil and Rohri hospitals. He said the process of identification of the deceased and the injured was underway.
The overturned bus was lifted by a crane after a rescue operation by locals, including the district and motorway police.
Sindh Transport Minister Awais Shah expressed grief over the deadly crash and said the administration was in contact with the families of the deceased and the injured.
