ISLAMABAD: The federal government has re-constituted the inquiry committee it made to investigate into the killing of prominent journalist Arshad Sharif. The team now comprises police officer and author Omar Shahid Hamid and Director/DG FIA Athar Waheed will travel to Kenya immediately.
Earlier, a member from Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, ISI, was also part of the 3-members team. The government gave no reason as to why the ISI member was excluded from the investigation team.

According to the notification available with MM News, the team will leave for Kenya immediately and noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s High Commission in Nairobi will facilitate the team during the visit.
Arshad Sharif, it may be recalled, was shot dead on Sunday night along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in what police termed as a mistaken identity. The Keyan media report said Arshad Sharif was shot in the head and killed by police after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock that had been set up to check on motor vehicles using the route.

Kenyan media, however, disputed police version of the story and raised a number of questions. A local media outlet said that “the truth might be in what has not been documented” in the police report.
