ISLAMABAD: Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has been picked as Carteaker Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The decision was made after a meeting between outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz at the PM House.
Both leaders have signed the summary and sent it to the President’s House for approval, said a statement by the PM’s Office.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Raja Riaz said they have reached a consensus that Anwarul Haq Kakar will be the caretaker PM.
“I had given this name and the PM has consented to this name … I and the PM have signed on the summary,” he told reporters. He added that Kakar would take oath as the head of the interim set-up on Sunday.
Anwar ul Haq Kakar has been a member of the Senate since March 2018. Kakar was elected to the Senate as an independent candidate on the general seat from Balochistan in 2018. He took oath as Senator on 12 March 2018.
He co-launched a new political party Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). The government had indicated that the interim prime minister could be from a smaller province.
