Anticlimax of PTI

Inayat Shamsi by Inayat Shamsi
May 25, 2023

After the stormy rise of the former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf across the country, the process of anti-climax is going on at the same pace.

It seems that the extremely violent incidents that took place on May 9 in the name of protesting the arrest of Mr. Imran Khan have become a 9/11 tragedy for PTI. Therefore, some time ago, in the kind of special emotional atmosphere, through aggressive “bowling” by knocking down the “wickets” of other parties, the logistics of Tehreek-e-Insaf were arranged. 9/11 of May 9 has created an anti-climax environment against PTI in the same way. As a result of which today Tehreek-e-Insaaf has been gripped by the merciless climate of political bitterness and one by one its elements are disintegrating.

On the 9th of May, when there was a whirlwind of violence all over the country and in particular, every prominent military landmark and installation in the country was targeted. It seemed as if this self-dealing mob had been mentally prepared for this purpose for years, and now this angry mob wants to destroy everything.

Ironically, social media, which is an effective tool of PTI, has been trying to convince people by proudly posting the scenes of this stupid house-blowing spectacle that it is a demonstration of the public power of a political party. No other power, not even the entire state, can withstand the force of the people. All this was the result of a long period of brainstorming and hard work in which the political leader was convinced of a “red line” as if a mafia-style line was being drawn that no one would be forgiven if crossed.

In this process of brainstorming, which has been going on for several months, the country’s defense institutions were specifically being targeted. In order to make this campaign effective, the hypothesis of a regime change conspiracy was fabricated and the defense agencies were accused of “treason” as a role of this supposed external operation.Today, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan is innocently asking what is the establishment angry with him? He is  probably forgetting that for more than a year after the overthrow of his government, the way he has been targeting the defense institutions through their party, the anger he is facing today is its result. The disastrous manner in which the “work” of a year came to light on May 9 made it clear to the country’s security agencies that giving more leeway and respite to those who spread hatred and anarchy would bring such an accident to the country and the nation, which will not be easy to compensate and things will get out of control.

The way the brutality and terror were displayed across the country on May 9 was in no way worthy of a peaceful political and democratic party. The arrest and imprisonment of political leaders is not a unique phenomenon in the country’s politics. Among the old political parties, there is no such party which has not suffered oppression on political grounds in different periods. Even political leaders were jailed for long time and hanged but no political party has ever drawn a “red line” against these harshness and unjust repression, as unfortunately came to light across the country on May 9 on behalf of PTI.

What happened on that day, if it was just a random accident, it could have been ignored after minor punishment, but unfortunately what happened on May 9 was the result of the narrative of chaos, enmity, hatred and revenge. Politics of chaos, hatred, enmity, stubbornness, ego and intolerance is not only dangerous for the country’s politics, but its poison has engulfed the entire society. Due to drawing a line in the society on the basis of one’s particular ideas and particular preferences, hatred has been embedded in the society on a large scale. Now the situation is that due to political differences, tragic incidents of murder and bloodshed have also occurred.

In addition, as a result of political differences being treated as enmity, fights on social media websites and street fights have become the norm. Political opponents are caught in the street markets and subjected to hatred and abuse, which has turned the country into a spectacle.

Experienced people have repeatedly explained that differences should not be carried to such extremes, but unfortunately even neutral dissenters were not spared and were humiliated as animals. This politics of hatred, enmity and opposition has badly destroyed the stability of the country, which is also an important cause of economic decline. It is decided that now to take the country forward, it is necessary to wrap the chessboard of this extremist style of politics. If this process does not stop, peace and stability in the country will remain a dream for a long time and the country’s time and capital will continue to be wasted in these battles.

Whether there are violent incidents on the 9th of May or the extremist ideas behind such incidents, those responsible should be held accountable, but any steps and actions should be within the realm of justice. It is also important to keep in mind that PTI is a political party and political parties cannot be abolished by force.

After the rise of PTI, this journey of anticlimax is painful as well as a lesson for those who have wisdom. This journey of the rise and fall of PTI proves that the politics of intolerance and hatred is not blessed with sustainability. It is also a lesson for all political workers to keep their differences within the realm of moderation and balance. It is necessary to understand that politics is not a struggle of life and death, but a field of disagreement of priorities for the service of the country. However, this is the time for the entire nation to learn from the ongoing events with dignity and patience, this lesson is also given by the setting sun every day, but who learns the lesson?
