MULTAN: Another six doctors, who are working at the Nishtar Hospital, have tested positive for the COVID-19 in Multan, taking the tally of infected doctors to 23 in the city.
The infected doctors were immediately shifted to the isolation ward after testing positive for the coronavirus. Moreover, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid asserted that infected doctors were not involved in treating any COVID-19 patients as there is no coronavirus ward in the hospital. One of the doctors, who contracted the virus from his father, infected other doctors, she maintained.
The number of infections among doctors has been surging in Multan since last week. It appeared that four doctors and five para-medical staff had tested positive for the COVID-19 at the Nishtar Hospital earlier on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, twelve doctors and six nurses had tested positive for the virus at the same hospital. Two doctors have so far died in Pakistan after contracting the virus during the treatment of coronavirus patients and many more affected due to a shortage of protective gear.
Doctors in Balochistan in this regard went on strike against the shortage of personal protective equipment and resumed work after assurances from the authorities last week.
