Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Fighter has been banned in another country United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The movie which was released on January 25 was initially banned in Golf countries such as Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar except for UAE. However, as per the Indian media, the film’s screening has been suspended in this country as well.
The movie’s narrative, revolving around India’s response to the Pulwama terrorist attack might have led to its ban in various regions. However, the exact cause for the prohibition was not disclosed initially.
The film’s trailer faced criticism, particularly for its depiction of the Pulwama attack. Many Pakistanis accused the film of promoting an ‘anti-Pakistan’ agenda and exploiting a sensitive issue. These critiques, combined with the film’s controversial theme, likely influenced the decisions of the Gulf censor boards.
On the other hand, the movie’s director Siddharth Anand while addressing the concerns urged viewers to watch the movie in its entirety for context before forming an opinion based on the trailer only. According to him, Fighter aims to raise questions about terrorism without instigating animosity towards any nation.
Despite the suspension and bans, the aerial action thriller movie will continue its theatrical run in India.
The movie besides Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone also stars Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Sanjeeda Shaikh. The fighter revolves around the Balakot airstrike that was done by the Indian Armed Forces in the vicinity of the town of Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.
