MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s new comedy movie will be directly premiered on Amazon Prime instead of the cinema on 12th June due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Movie ‘Gulabo Sitabo’, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead was scheduled to screen in theatres on 17th April, however, like the rest of the economy, the entertainment industry rolled on a practiced smoothness when the catastrophe struck mid-March, and theatres began to be closed in one state after another.
According to Amazon’s streaming service, the movie will now be available in 200 countries. Amazon operates in a crowded field in India, alongside not just Netflix but also others such as Hotstar partnered with Disney in the fight for eyeballs in the market of 1.3 billion people.
As the rest of the world continues to grapple with a pandemic, the release of many a potential blockbuster has been put on hold. Several Bollywood film releases like Sooryavanshi, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and more have pushed their release dates due to the pandemic.
Moreover, producer Karan Johar’s Takht that was set to go on floors sometime now will be delayed due to the virus outbreak. Additionally, rumours suggest that makers of Coolie No. 1 may shift the film’s release to either the end of May or the first week of June, depending on the situation.
