SAN FRANCISCO: Amazon.com is planning to launch its Amazon-branded TV in the United States as soon as October.
The launch, involving teams from Amazon Devices and Lab126, has been in the works for almost two years, a report in Business Insider said, citing people familiar with the matter.
The TVs, which will be powered by voice assistant Alexa, are currently designed and manufactured by third parties, one of which is TCL, the report added.
The company is also developing a TV designed in-house, but it is unclear when that might be released. The tech giant had already launched an AmazonBasics TV in India late last year.
Amazon alread partners with to sell Toshiba and Insignia TVs that run Amazon’s Fire TV software. It has the Amazon Fire TV Stick and Amazon Fire TV Cube which you can attach with your TV.
The rumored new Amazon-branded TV could indicate that the company is stepping up its television efforts to take on TV stalwarts like LG and Samsung more directly.
