KARACHI: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs Mahmood Moulvi has said that the allegation of not allowing entry to the cruise ship is baseless as the ship was purchased for scrap instead of for recreational purposes.
While talking to the media about the largest ship in the history of the country arriving in Karachi, Mahmood Moulvi said that the 1200 room ship was purchased for scrap at Rs 2 billion.
Talking to the media, the Special Assistant said that it should be clear from the contract related to the ship that cruise ships can be used only for scrap and the policy of the Department of Maritime Affairs is clear on this issue.
During the talk, Moulvi said, “Anyone who wants to bring a cruise ship should take it from Karachi to Gwadar and then to Dubai, he said by adding, “The Government of Pakistan and Maritime will fully cooperate.”
It may be recalled that earlier it was decided to break the largest palace-like ship which was coming to Karachi. Officials said that the ship could not be used for recreational purposes.
It was decided to start the process of dismantling the luxury cruise ship Antarctica Experience at Gadani Shipbreaking Yard soon. The luxury cruise ship arrived in Pakistan on 2nd December.
