A 40-year-old Ahmadi man was reportedly killed in an axe attack in Rawalpindi on Thursday, according to a spokesman for the community. However, the police have not yet registered a case regarding the incident.
Jamaat Ahmadiyya spokesperson Aamir Mahmood said that the victim, Tayyab, was visiting his brother’s shop when he was attacked. The incident took place at an oil shop located in a private housing society under the jurisdiction of Dhamial Police Station.
Tayyab leaves behind a widow, while his brother survived the attack. The attacker is said to have shouted anti-Ahmadi slogans during the assault.
According to the statement, a few days earlier, extremists had thrown stones at Tayyab’s brother’s shop and had been issuing threats. Tayyab’s brother, fearing for his safety, had recently moved his family out of Rawalpindi.
The community spokesperson condemned these acts of violence, calling on the government to take action against hate speech and violence targeting the Ahmadiyya community.
Police sources confirmed that no FIR had been filed by Friday.
