Journalist Ahmad Noorani’s mother filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court seeking the recovery of her two sons, Saifur Rehman Haider and Muhammad Ali, who she claims were “forcibly disappeared” due to Noorani’s investigative reporting.
Noorani, working for FactFocus, had published a report on a high-ranking military officer and his family. The petition alleged that the brothers were taken from their home by individuals likely affiliated with intelligence agencies and argued that their disappearance was a reprisal for Noorani’s journalism.
The petition, submitted under Article 199 of the Constitution, lists the Federation of Pakistan through the interior secretary, the Ministry of Defence via its secretary, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and the station house officer (SHO) of Noon Police Station as respondents.
The petition contends that the incident constitutes an enforced disappearance, violating fundamental constitutional rights. It further emphasizes that the two men, both engineers, have no involvement in Noorani’s reporting, reinforcing concerns that they were targeted solely due to their familial connection to the journalist.
