Amid rising conflicts within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, lawmaker Junaid Akbar resigned from the party’s core committee on Saturday.
His resignation comes just a day after the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, stepped down as the PTI secretary general, indicating that more changes in the party’s organizational structure were imminent.
Following Ayub’s resignation, Sher Afzal Marwat called for PTI Senator Shibli Faraz to resign, accusing him and others of preventing him from meeting the incarcerated PTI founder, Imran Khan. Akbar echoed these allegations, stating that “certain people” are allowed to meet the PTI founder while others are not.
“Their interests lie with each other, and we are only told that the current party policy aligns with that of Imran Khan,” Akbar said, adding that “the beneficiaries of all the decisions are these people, their families, and friends.”
Akbar further expressed his frustration, stating that he has no influence in party decisions and is unable to meet Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail. “PTI is my home, and I am neither a part of any group nor will I be in the future,” Akbar affirmed.
