Veteran Pakistani actress Ayesha Khan was found dead in her apartment in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7, Karachi, media reports said on Friday.
According to police, her body was discovered nearly a week after her passing, raising concerns about her prolonged isolation and health. Ayesha had been living alone for several years and had largely withdrawn from public life.
She was 76 years old and the elder sister of the iconic television actress Khalida Riyasat. Ayesha Khan was born on November 22, 1948.
Her body has been moved to Jinnah Hospital for further examination, while police have begun questioning neighbors and relatives as part of their investigation.
A celebrated figure in Pakistan’s television industry, Ayesha Khan made her mark with unforgettable performances on Pakistan Television (PTV). She was best known for her roles in classic dramas such as Akhri Chattan, Tipu Sultan: The Tiger Lord, Dehleez, Daraarein, Bol Meri Machli, Saibaan, and Ek Aur Aasman. Her work resonated with audiences in both Pakistan and India.
Renowned for her versatility, Ayesha seamlessly transitioned between comic and serious roles, often paired with fellow legends Qazi Wajid and Talat Hussain, forming some of the most beloved duos in PTV history.
In addition to her television career, she also appeared in a few films, including Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Muskaan, and Fatima.
Her younger sister, Khalida Riyasat—herself a television legend—passed away in 1996. She was known for standout performances in classics such as Aik Muhabbat Sou Afsane, Ankahi, Tabeer, and Nasheman.
The passing of Ayesha Khan marks the end of an era for generations of PTV drama enthusiasts, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and cherished memories.
