KARACHI: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) East Zone today (Saturday) has sought documents related to the employment of all station fire officers of the Karachi Fire Department (KFD).
According to details, the corruption watchdog has issued a notice to the Senior Director of Human Resources at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in this regard, stating that the illegally employed fire brigade officers are causing severe financial loss to the provincial exchequer.
The concerned officials are directed to submit the employment documents, including personal file, service book and attendance report to Inspector Inquiry Anti-Corruption East Zone Pervez Ahmed Abro by December 21, the notice stated.
It is worth mentioning here that the Karachi Fire Department (KFD) is in a deplorable state due to mismanagement and alleged corruption. An exceeding number of fire incidents in the metropolis have brought to attention the fire department’s inability to carry out rescue operations properly.
In November, the Sindh High Court was informed that only 14 fire tenders were working in the megacity of Karachi and 30 such vehicles were out of order for the past six months and had not been sent for repairs.
Earlier on Friday, Sindh information and local government minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the provincial government was taking emergency measures to repair the faulty fire engines to overcome the shortage of staff being faced by Karachi’s fire brigade.
