SUKKUR: An accountability court has postponed the hearing of assets beyond means case filed against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah till 14th July.
The hearing was adjourned due to the non-appointment of a presiding officer of the Sukkur accountability court. The court has been lying vacant for the past one and a half months since the completion of former accountability judge Ameer Ali Mahesar’s tenure.
Many important references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are facing delays owing to the non-availability of a judge. The NAB had filed the assets beyond means reference of Rs 1.23 billion against Khursheed Shah.
The bureau had nominated his two wives, two sons, and son-in-law in the reference. Shah was granted bail by the court in December after the accountability bureau’s delay in filing reference against him.
However, the Sindh High Court (SHC) Circuit Bench Sukkur later suspended the accountability court’s orders to grant bail to the veteran Peoples Party leader.
He was arrested on 18th September last year by the NAB in Islamabad in a joint raid by the anti-corruption watchdog’s Rawalpindi and Sukkur bureau. He is facing charges of possessing assets amounting to Rs500 billion through illegal means.
