For the last ten years, Netflix has been programming their own in-house, original content.
Hit series like ‘GLOW’ and ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ have been canceled by the OTT without airing until the show reached a final season.
Let’s have a look back at the Netflix’s biggest cancellations so far:
Santa Clarita Diet (2017-2019)
Drew Barrymore starrer Santa Clarita Diet was the best thing to happen on Netflix. It was a comedy series about a family turned upside down when one of them just happens to turn into a zombie.
However, Netflix cancelled the show as it was just too expensive and, despite being an audience favourite, the series is one of the most egregious cancellations in comedy history.
Daredevil (2015-2018)
Daredevil was first out of the gate as part of Netflix’s now-defunct deal with Marvel to produce shows around the MCU’s ‘street level heroes’ (like Jessica Jones).
Charlie Cox played the iconic blind superhero for three seasons before Netflix cancelled it, despite cast, crew and even Marvel execs expecting at least a five-season deal.
Even if the show had been able to finish its run, however, it still would have been yanked off the service along with the rest of its Marvel cohort, and it looks like its new home on Disney+ finally has more in store for this character.
Partner Track (2022)
Netflix’s legal drama centered on Ingrid Yun, an ambitious lawyer determined to rise at her male-dominated firm.
The fans wanted it, and the cast definitely wanted it too, but sadly, this is where the journey ends for ‘Partner Track’.
After airing for just one season, Netflix cancelled the show due to lackluster ratings and its failure to meet the streamer’s requirements to qualify for a renewal.
The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself (2022)
The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself, based on Sally Green’s YA fantasy novel Half Bad, was exiled by Netflix. The show debuted on the streaming platform in October 2022despite being a major hit with viewers and critics was not renewed for another season.
1899 (2022)
Netflix’s cult smash Dark ‘1899’ despite positive reviews from critics and fans was cancelled by Netflix.
‘1899’, which followed a group of immigrants aboard a ship faced with a series of mysterious events, debuted on the streamer in November 2022.
The Midnight Club (2022)
The Midnight Club, was scrapped after season one by Netflix. Standing as Flanagan’s fourth Netflix series, the 10-episode thriller focused on a group of terminally ill teens who form a club at their hospice centre.
