Pathaan, yet another Bollywood movie is being subjected to calls for boycott ahead of its release. Set to hit the screens in January 2023, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer like many recent movies has been embroiled in controversies for various reasons.
The cancel and boycott culture has become all the rage on social media, nowadays. Here is a list of movies that faced boycotted on social media in 2022:
1) Pathaan
Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan which hasn’t been released yet has on the boycott lists since its teaser was released.
Many netizens found Shah Rukh Khan’s views on intolerance and Pakistan cricketers from the past enough reason to boycott his movie which also features Deepika Padukone.
2) Laal Singh Chaddha
Aamir Khan’s ₹180 crores budget movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ faced immense backlash over actors’ old comments on intolerance and ‘not feeling safe’ in India.
Moreover, his movie’s content also managed to overshadow the controversy.
3) Brahmastra
‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ faced boycott calls for a comment movie’s leading actor Ranbir Kapoor made some 10 years ago in which he could be seen opening up about his love for meat, especially beef. His old video outraged users that led a film facing a boycott.
4) Raksha Bandhan
Akshay Kumar’s comments on writer Kanika Dhillon’s old remarks on Hindu religious belief, hijab ban, and communal lynching were the main reasons why his movie faced a backlash.
5) Liger
Vijay Deverakonda’s Hindi debut movie ‘Liger’ faced backlash and a boycott trend after the leading actor of the movie said the boycott culture was going a little too far.
