Imagine more than 300 to 400 men attacking a woman in a public place that also on the day of independence. Unfortunately, it happened; a TikToker based in Lahore was harassed publically by a mob of men on 14th August.
Not only was TikToker named Ayesha Akram harassed, attack but also groped, humiliated, and robbed at the Greater Iqbal Park at the Minar-e-Pakistan monument. Her video went viral and soon people started to raise safety concerns about women in Pakistan.
It’s a reminder that she was wearing an eastern attire, she was not alone instead she was accompanied by her male companions and she was not roaming at the night, yet she was attacked and harassed publically. Some people blamed the girl anyhow and some demanded a complete ban on TikTok.
A user wrote, “The assault of young women by a mob at #minarepakistan should shame every Pakistani. It speaks to a rot in our society. Those responsible must be brought to justice. The women of Pakistan feel insecure and it is all our responsibility to ensure safety and equal rights to all”. Another user believed, “Please boys.. don’t feel ashamed..NOT ALL MEN ARE TRASH!! Remember that..some guyz are true gem.. and allah knows everything, you don’t need to clarify anything”.
Even Mahira Khan sarcastically commented: “Damn I’m sorry.. I keep forgetting – it was Her fault!! Poor 400 men.. they couldn’t help it. #MinarePakistan” Here is the sane debate over which Twitter has been divided:
