LAHORE: Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem arrived in Pakistan on Thursday after he participating in the Tokyo Olympics to hero’s welcome.
Arshad Nadeem arrived at 1:30AM at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport. A large number of sports enthusiasts had gathered at the airport to receive him. They showered rose petals to welcome as cheers and slogans filled the air.
Punjab Minister for Youth and Sports Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Athletics Federation Pakistan President, coaches, and other athletes also received him at the airport.
Speaking to the media briefly at the airport, Arshad Nadeem thanked all the people who prayed for him. He also thanked sports boards for patronising him. He vowed to overcome his shortcomings and play the best game in the future and win laurels for his country.
Arshad Nadeem also vowed that he would not disappoint his admirers with his performance in future. The athlete said he is grateful to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Punjab board and expressed satisfaction with the bodies for patronising him.
The Punjab sports minister lauded Arshad Nadeem saying he made them proud and Pakistan got global recognition.
Olympics performance
Nadeem finished fifth during the javelin throw competition in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. India’s Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal. He made history by becoming the first-ever Pakistani athlete to qualify for the final of any track and field event in the Olympics.
India’s Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a record 87.58-metre throw in the javelin throw. He became India’s first track and field athlete who won gold in Olympics. Chopra was followed by Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely, who claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
Recognising his efforts in the sports, the Punjab government has announced a cash reward worth Rs1 million for Arshad Nadeem for his performance in the Tokyo Olympics.
