For the last two to three years, principals of several government colleges in Sindh had tendered resignations over various problems, difficulties, mental and political pressure.
C&S College is one of the oldest educational institutes in Shikarpur, Sindh, which has produced many eminent scholars, renowned academicians and politicians as well.
According to sources, Prof Irshad Jumani had taken charge as the Principal of C&S College, Shikarpur after the retirement of Prof Mohammad Afzal Sheikh and formal notification of his appointment was also issued about two and a half months ago.
He had been facing a difficult situation due to alleged non-cooperation of the administration of C&S Govt Degree College in coping with the difficulties in managing the affairs of the institute whereas he was also facing pressure from an influential political leader of the region.
He had also raised reservations over the quality of construction material and standards in renovating the college building and financial irregularities. He also held a meeting with a Sindh minister, who hails from the city, but his reservations were not addressed. The disheartened professor eventually decided to quit the post after immense pressure.
Earlier, Dr Moazzam Haider, former Director General of Colleges, was also disheartened by such circumstances and resigned from the post. Director Finance Associate Professor Saleh Abbas was also pressurized for doing irregularities in the budget. However, instead of fulfilling illegal demands, Saleh Abbas resigned from the post.
