ISLAMABAD: The government has appointed Sanaullah Abbasi as new Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
“The Prime Minister is pleased to transfer the DG FIA into the Police Service of Pakistan and appoint Sanaullah Abbasi as the new Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA),” said a statement by PM’s House.
Sanaullah Abbasi was currently serving as Inspector General Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He replaced incumbent Wajid Zia who has been removed by the federal cabinet. Zia has been transferred to National Police Bureau with immediate effects.
Zia had taken charge as the DG FIA in November 2019 after the government unceremoniously removed Bashir Memon. He had shot to fame after he headed the Panamagate joint investigation team
Moazam Jha Ansari has been appointed as IGP KP while Salahuddin has been appointed as IG FIA. Ansari was previously serving as the commandant of the Frontier Constabulary. Abbasi was appointed as the KP police chief in January 2020 and had replaced Dr Naeem Khan.
