PESHAWAR: The COVID-19 has claimed 34 more lives during the last 24 hours in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), pushing the provincial death toll to 2,953.
According to data issued by KP Health Department, the province was hit with 1,062 fresh cases on 20th April, taking the total caseload to 106,500. Moreover, patients that made a complete recovery in the province are marked at approximately 90,789.
Despite the deteriorating situation, the provincial Task Force on COVID-19 has decided to re-open all public and private schools and colleges for in-person classes on 19th April.
Classes will only resume for students of secondary and higher secondary classes (9 to 12). The decision was made in view of the board examinations scheduled for next month.
Pakistan recorded 5,445 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s COVID-19 tally to 766,882.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the country’s death toll climbed to 16,453 after 137 people succumbed to the deadly disease during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 4,286 patients recovered from the deadly disease in a day taking total recoveries to 667,131. According to NCOC, the total active COVID-19 cases across the country were reported to be 83,298.
As many as 68,002 samples were tested, out of which 5,152 turned out to be positive with an 8 percent positivity rate. Almost 4,494 patients are critically ill due to COVID-19 and are currently under treatment at the country’s various hospitals.
