JOHANNESBURG: Pakistan is eyeing a series lead against South Africa today (Monday) as they take on the Proteas in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Pakistan, who won the first T20I by four wickets, lead the series one-nil and is unlikely to make any changes to the side that played on Saturday. South Africa, on the other hand, will be hoping to win the second T20I and break Pakistan’s momentum carried after winning the ODI leg.
In the last T20I, opener and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan smashed an unbeaten half-century to lead Pakistan to a thrilling victory over inexperienced South Africa in the first match.
They reached a target of 189 with just one ball to spare. It was also Pakistan’s 100th win in the shortest format of the game. Pakistani bowling attack will be seeking to hit the right lengths after they failed to impress in the first game.
Five key players from the Proteas squad — Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi — departed for the Indian Premier League. The Proteas have also lost their regular limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma and their in-form batsman Rassie van der Dussen.
