KARACHI: A PTI lawmaker in Sindh Assembly penned down a letter to Karachi Commissioner Naveed Ahmed Shaikh and other top officials, demanding a ‘grand operation’ against stray dogs.
According to details, PTI MPA Raja Azhar Khan wrote the letter to the metropolis’ commissioner, Naveed Ahmed Shaikh, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, the deputy commissioner for Korangi, Shehryar Memon, and the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Korangi Creek Cantonment Board.
“Despite constantly asking relevant officers to address the growing population of stray and mad dogs in Karachi, there has been no action in this regard,” the PTI MPA lamented.
Raja Azhar further wrote, “I say this with much regret that my request to all the relevant officers fell on deaf ears,” adding that an immediate redressal was of “paramount importance”.
“It’s alarming to think about when the top officials would understand their responsibilities and when would the top officials respond to problems identified by public representatives.
He also said, “I request you once again that for God’s sake, the public is deeply disturbed by the rising number of dog-bite cases. A grand operation should immediately be initiated against these stray dogs and protection be provided to the citizens immediately.
It is pertinent to mention here that over the last three years, more than 27,000 dog-bite cases have been reported, with the Sindh government neutering the canines instead of culling them.
