KARACHI: On the directives of Sindh government, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has announced a new housing scheme for 250,000 people in Gadap Town area of Karachi.
The housing scheme will be spread over 62,934 acres comprising of six villages – Muthgarh, Mahu, Allahpai, Shahichap, Mandoro, and Loharkolanj – will be called Scheme No. 47. The KDA has sent a summary to Sindh government for the allotment of land and is awaiting a notification in this regard.
KDA has planned a masterplan for the scheme while a detailed layout is being worked out. The KDA’s last housing project was Scheme 45 in Taiser Town while Scheme 41 Surjani was launched back in 1986.
Despite the rising population in the metropolis, the government has not launched any housing scheme after Taiser Town project. Under the new scheme, citizens can receive a plot for Rs400,000-500,000 with all the necessary civic amenities and facilities.
Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah has directed newly-appointed KDA Director-General Nasir Abbas Soomro who has instructed Member Administration Muhammad Sohail Khan to launch the scheme and fulfill the housing needs.
Speaking to a media outlet, Sohail Khan said the 20,000 acres of the housing scheme will be allocated to ordinary citizens, government employees and industrial areas. He said the scheme will help ease the financial crisis in KDA and will also facilitate the masses.
