LAHORE: An accountability court in Lahore today (Tuesday) has declared Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif’s wife Nusrat Shehbaz a ‘proclaimed offender’ in a money laundering case.
According to details, the bench, headed by Judge Jawadul Hassan, observed that Nusrat Shehbaz was repeatedly summoned but she didn’t turn up. Meanwhile, the court also extended the judicial remand of Shehbaz and his son Hamza Shehbaz until December 12.
During the court proceedings, the PML-N President complained to the judge that he was not being provided with medical facilities despite the fact that he is a cancer patient.
In this regard, Judge Jawadul Hassan informed that the court had already ordered for a physiotherapist to be provided to the PML-N leader, to which Shehbaz said the court’s order was not complied with.
Advocate Amjad Pervez, who is representing the Shehbaz family, didn’t appear in court as he was busy in the Supreme Court. The court gave him a last chance to cross-examine NAB witnesses at the next hearing. The court adjourned the hearing until December 12.
Earlier in November, an accountability court indicted PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz and other accused in a money laundering case. The court read out charges to the accused, who denied the charges and opted to contest them.
Pleading innocence, Shehbaz stated that the case instituted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was based on mala fide intentions. “Not a shred of evidence against us has been produced,” he maintained.
