LAHORE: The police today (Tuesday) have registered a case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to COVID-19.
According to details, the party leaders were booked under provisions of the Punjab Sound System Regulation Act, violation of COVID-19 SOPs, and provoking citizens against the government.
The police booked Maryam Nawaz, MNA, Malik Riaz, Waseem Khokhar, Talal Chaudhry, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Malik Abrar, and others at the Shahdira Police Station.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had imposed a ban on all kinds of public gatherings in an attempt to stem the rising tide of coronavirus infections across the country.
He warned that if the COVID-19 cases continued to surge with the current pace, the country’s hospitals will be running out of space. “We will urge the opposition to cancel mass gatherings in line with government’s decision,” he stated.
Talking to journalists today (Tuesday), before leaving for Islamabad to attend the much-awaited PDM leadership meeting, Maryam Nawaz said that FIRs did not have any value as the government would soon have to go.
The PML-N vice president pointed out that the people were tired of inflation and joblessness and were looking towards the alliance and Nawaz Sharif as a messiah. “The government is frightened by the PDM rally in Lahore scheduled for December 13,” she remarked.
