ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has announced that a national-level esports tournament will be taking place in March 2021 in Islamabad.
In an interview with TV host Waqar Zaka, the federal minister informed that the tournament will be funded through private sponsorships. “The bureaucracy would not hinder the event,” he assured.

“The video game industry is worth 90 billion dollars. There is an annual growth of 20 percent in the video gaming industry in Pakistan,” he said, adding, “The companies working in Pakistan are telling me that we have jobs available but there aren’t enough people that we can hire.”
The minister also said that the government was collaborating with these companies to introduce certification courses in universities and relevant courses to the curriculum of 12th graders in school.
The Minister also assured that the government would be supporting and sponsoring local esports players in International tournaments. “A special program of animation and video games to encourage young people to be part of the multi-billion dollar gaming industry,” he announced.
According to a recent report by Newzoo senior market analyst Tom Wijman, the global gaming market will generate $159.3 billion in revenue in 2020. That would be 9.3 percent year-over-year growth.
