ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Friday) has asserted that the Pakistan Citizen Portal was a step towards empowering the people of the country.
“Over three million people had used it to register their complaints and each ministry had been given a breakdown of their performance,” he said while addressing a ceremony on the second anniversary of the portal.
He further said, “The portal is instrumental in pointing out which government departments were providing services to people and highlighted those that were not.” According to the premier, the portal also revealed that in Pakistan the local government system was not functioning at all.
In this regard, PM Imran said that municipal services were not being provided in the country which reflected that the local government system was not functioning properly. “We will introduce a new local bodies system, a revolution will come after the local bodies elections,” he added.
“The new local government system will be implemented at a village level, where people will be able to elect their representatives who will directly receive funds every year,” he announced.
He outlined his plan for cities, saying that they will have their own governments and where elections to elect public representatives will be held. “It would be the best way to solve their municipal and problems on a local government level, like pollution, waste management, sewerage etc,” he added.
“In major cities like Karachi and Lahore, elections will be held and a city government will be formed that will take care of issues being faced by the residents, including water, sanitation, waste management etc,” the premier remarked.
The Pakistan Citizen Portal was launched in 2018 with the aim to timely address the problems of the people and get their feedback.
Commenting on people’s complaints of officials being corrupt, he said, “I would urge our people to use this portal to report their corruption and then it will be our job to seek answers from them.”
He also warned that any bureaucrat who was caught involved in corruption would be suspended from service rather than transferred to another post.
