KARACHI: The land mafia is illegally occupying and demolishing houses in Karachi’s Surjani Town under the alleged patronage of Surjan Project’s subordinate staff, it has been learned.
According to details, the land mafia has occupied a number of constructed houses in the said project and had demolished a house after the owner refuses to hand over the plot.
Sources have informed that the land mafia had earlier threatened, Athar Ali, the owner of the house, located at Surjani Town Sector 6, and assassinated his character. Later, the owner approached the court and obtained stay orders.
In this regard, armed men turned up at his plot in vehicles and a tractor and demolished his land. Later, according to the owner, they also made bogus documents and forcibly occupied the land.
Sources further claimed that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Surjani Police Station is also patronizing the land mafia. However, no action has been taken yet despite several applications. The victim has appealed to the relevant authorities to take immediate and stern action against the occupation mafia.
