Makeup can change your entire look; get it wrong or well, makeup is a game-changer. Hima Raza delved into the world of makeup artists a few years back. She is an MUA, blogger, and beauty trainer.
In love with colors and finding challenges an easy task, Hima runs a salon named ‘Mirrors By Tazeen’ located in Karachi. We spoke to her for the latest trends and tips in the beauty industry.
1) Who is your inspiration?
Hima Raza: Nabila. She is a renowned makeup artist in Pakistan. From her, I learned how hard work pays back, remain dedicated, and staying goal-oriented. Her journey is so inspiring. I read her book all the time. She had already experimented with the iconic looks which we makeup artists experiment now.
2) What skin care routine you would suggest during dry weather?
Hima Raza: Nowadays, due to the dry weather, your skin becomes flaky so everyone should try avoiding dry products. Add more olive and almond oil to your daily routine. Use a hydrating primer to your makeup.
Moisturize before applying makeup even if it’s oily skin, use a setting spray at the end but do use a moisturizer it’s something most people do not get.
3) A simple daily night care routine for people who apply makeup?
Hima Raza: Use a double cleanser, use coconut or olive oil, take a little amount, and massage your face gently. Then remove it with wipes. In the end, wash your face and moisturize it. It will help you maintain healthy skin.
4) As a makeup artist, how do you deal with people asking for excessive makeup?
Hima Raza: There is, unfortunately, a misconception of ‘white-skin’, we are still affected by colonialism. We should learn to enhance our looks more my makeup rather than changing it overall. I even suggest my clients not to change their skin tone. I am strictly against whitening.
5) Do you support skin whitening injections?
Hima Raza: I grew up as a dusky girl, been bullied too. How can skin become white when it is brown? And as far as whitening injections are concerned; we have a natural skin pigment called melanin that protects your skin. By injecting whitening injections, a person basically kills melanin which leads to skin cancer.
6) What foundation you would suggest for oily and dry skin?
Hima Raza: For oily skin, never use an overly oily product, one can use matte, water-based, silicone-based, and mattifying spray. Hydrate your skin if it is dry and use creamy foundations.
7) Do wipes damage skin?
Hima Raza: Depends on what kind of product you are using; if you use normal wipes on the face, it might damage your skin as it is perfumed which means it is chemical-based, it will damage your skin. Moreover, always go for face wipes, ordinary wipes are harmful.
8) An easy makeup trick you can do in 5 minutes?
Hima Raza: Yes, makeup can be applied within five minutes.
- Wash your face.
- Apply a BB cream.
- Pick up a lip tint, apply it to your cheeks and lips.
- Put mascara
- If you are a Kajal lover, use it.
9) Which is your favourite local brand?
Hima Raza: It is definitely ‘Masarrat Misbah’. I love its products especially its foundation.
10) What is the trending look for brides nowadays?
Hima Raza: Brides nowadays want a natural and softer look. They require soft dewy skin, soft lips, and not very dramatic eye makeup. A glittery eyes makeup with soft matte lip colours, this look is trending nowadays.
