ISLAMABAD: Employees sacked by the Thatta cement factory continued to protest today (Wednesday) for a third consecutive day to pressure authorities into accepting their demands.
Chaudhry Mohammad Yaseen, General Secretary, Federal Development Agency’s (FDA) Trade Union, attended the rally to express solidarity with the workers, saying that the incumbent government was making workers unemployed instead of giving jobs.
As many as 600 factory employees were holding a sit-in outside the National Press Club for the past three days. The factory was established in 1983 by the government of Pakistan but later it was privatised in 1992.
Talking to M.M News, Chaudhry Mohammad Yaseen said that sacking employees without paying their dues without any notice was a total injustice. “Unemployment rate in the country is also increasing which is a matter of concern,” he added.
“Hundreds of families are suffering due to the sackings, children are not going to school, house rent is not being paid, rations have run out in their houses due to which stoves have become cold,” he added.
On the occasion, Senator Tahir Bizenjo said that since PTI came into power, there has been no improvement in any department of the country. “There are unrest and unemployment everywhere,” he claimed, adding, “I will raise my voice for their rights in the Senate.”
