KARACHI: The Pakistan Army is conducting a relief and rescue operation in Karachi in the wake of torrential rains.
According to the Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR), flood victims are being assisted in different parts of Karachi and workers are trying to stop the flow of water from the Malir River. The flow has begun to slow down.
The Pakistan Army is discharging water from Quaidabad and Malir and Army Engineers’ boats are evacuating people while food is being provided to those affected by the rains. In Kohi Goth and Dar Mohammad Goth, 200 families have taken shelter on rooftops. As the weather improves, Army helicopters will evacuate those trapped in the floods.
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Pakistan’s economic hub. The means of transportation and electricity have been disrupted due to which the citizens are facing severe difficulties.
Karachi has broken the record of rains in August. Heavy rains have also washed away Malindi and the bridge at Memon Goth Road Old Police Station has collapsed due to the high flow of water. Memon Goth Road Malir lost ground connection with Landhi Industrial Area and river water reached Arafat Town and Madina Colony National Highway.
