MUMBAI: Former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh (MS) Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket today (Saturday), putting rest to endless speculations.
MS Dhoni made the announcement through a video on Instagram, its caption reading: “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929hrs consider me as Retired.”

Dhoni has not played since India’s semifinal exit from the 2019 ODI World Cup. However, his comeback to competitive cricket will be limited to this year’s IPL, which starts on September 19.
The wicket-keeper batsman retires as Indian cricket’s most successful captain in limited-overs internationals, having won three major ICC trophies – 2007 T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup in 2011, the 2010 and 2016 Asia Cups, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
The 39-year-old had announced his retirement from Test cricket in December of 2014. He carried on playing ODIs and T20Is, leading India to the semifinals of the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 World T20.
With 10,733 runs from 350 matches, Dhoni is fifth in the list of India’s all-time run-scorers in ODI behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.
In the Test format, MS Dhoni accumulated 4876 runs at an average of 38.09 and led India to more wins (27) than anyone else before him.
