GB police arrest two alleged Indian spies

GILGIT: Gilgit Baltistan (GB) police on Friday claimed to have apprehended two alleged Indian spies during a targeted operation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirza Hussain said that on an intelligence report, a police team carried out a targeted raid in a house near Jutail area and arrested two alleged Indian spies.

The police official further revealed that the criminals were involved in terrorism activities in the region.

The arrested suspects are being claimed as an important member of the notorious ‘Mehmood Siddiqui Group’ which is touted to have strong connections with Indian spying agency, RAW.

They were identified as Muhammad Wani and Feroz Ahmad Lone while further investigation is underway, the police official added.

On May 16, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had claimed to have arrested a suspected member of a cell operated by Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Karachi.

According to FIA officials, the suspect was serving as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the special branch of the police and was a key member of a RAW sleeper cell.

The officials further said the accused ASI was on surveillance duty at the Karachi airport at the time of the arrest. The accused had been recruited in Sindh Police in the year 1991 and was a member of MQM’s London group, According to FIA officials.

He had been involved in facilitating his partners at the airport and was also involved in targeted killings and terrorism activities in the metropolis. Officials added that the suspect had visited India in 2008 to receive training.
