BEIJING: Chinese video-sharing app TikTok has officially crossed 2 billion downloads within five months.
TikTok has gained the title of ‘most downloads for any app ever in a quarter,’ after crossing 2 million downloads. The application had 1.5 billion downloads just five months ago.
The report states that the 2 billion downloads of the app occurred across iOS and Android. TikTok generated $435.3 million in lifetime revenue from user spending on iOS, compared to $21.4 million in revenue on Android.
The report further states that India and China are the biggest drivers of TikTok installs, with India accounting for 611 million lifetime downloads to date, i.e., 30.3 percent of the total and China accounting for 196.6 million or 9.7 percent.
TikTok has more than 800 million users worldwide, is an increasingly popular platform for young people where they can create short videos and share them.
It should be noted that many US companies and startups have launched apps like TikTok before, but they have failed to diminish the popularity of the app. Facebook released a TikTok competitor in November 2018 named Lasso, but it did not gain the popularity hoped for.
