ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom has affirmed that India has started an undeclared war against the Muslims in the country.
While reacting to the USCIRF report, the foreign minister said, “The report has affirmed Pakistan stance that Indian Muslims are being targetted under the guise of the novel coronavirus.”
“India has accused Muslims of purposefully spreading the coronavirus,” he said, by adding that the India that used to accuse Pakistan is now targeting Indian minorities.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “I have written to all the foreign ministers of Muslim countries, talked to the close ones myself and asking them to raise their concerns over the issue”, he added.
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom released its annual report in which the commission said that the Citizenship Amendment Act, passed in December by the Parliament in majority-Hindu India, violates religious freedom, especially for Muslims.
The rating came in the annual report of the body charged with monitoring religious freedom abroad and the US government’s response to them.
The controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) gives Hindus and religious minorities from neighboring countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan a fast track to citizenship, it excludes Muslims.
