Over Rs. 69b distributed among 5.75m deserving families: Sania Nishtar

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Sania Nishtar has asserted that over Rs. 69 billion has been distributed among 5.75 million deserving families.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today (Thursday), she said that 80 percent payment process under the first category of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme has been completed.
She also informed that the payments for the second category (SMS beneficiaries) were going on speedily, adding that the efforts were also underway to overcome the hurdles being faced by the applicants.
The Special Assistant said that under the third category of this programme, the lists of beneficiaries were being finalized through the help of district administrations.
Dr. Sania Nishtar further said that over 89,000 Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) failed in the process of verification.
In this regard, she informed that around 35 million applicants were rejected after scrutinizing them on the basis of different parameters like wealth profiling, poverty score database, and Federal Board of Revenue statistics.
Dr. Sania Nishtar also assured that the government’s priority was to run this initiative in a transparent manner as per directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, providing maximum relief to the deserving people.
The Special Assistant also warned the retailers that, stern actions would be taken against those retailers involved in a deduction from the Rs. 12,000 given to the beneficiaries.
Commenting on the Ehsaas Rashan portal, she explained that this portal has been opened to facilitate the private sector in providing food rations to the deserving people amid coronavirus crisis.
