KARACHI: Pakistani scientists have discovered that the coronavirus’ chromosomes found in Pakistan are different from the others found in China.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences, Dr. Javed Akram held an important meeting along with Dr. Mahmood Shaukat, Dr. Nabil Awan and Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar in which professors informed the chief minister about the progress of the research conducted on the coronavirus.
Experts told the chief minister that the research process was underway by setting up a four study group organized by the University of Health Sciences. Buzdar in this regard directed the experts to advance the ongoing research activities on a priority basis.
According to details, the chromosomes of the coronavirus found in Pakistani cities are weaker than the chromosomes of the virus found in China. Research to prevent and treat the coronavirus is underway worldwide, including Pakistan.
Dr. Javed Akram, who contributed to the on-going research has said that ‘it could not be confirmed that the weaker chromosomes found in Pakistan are less harmful’ but research to control it is still underway.
Dr. Akram further said that ‘our experts have been working day and night on the research. So far, four study groups have been set up by the University of Health Sciences’. He himself is also part of a group.
Dr. Javed Akram has said that the coronavirus found in Pakistan is made up of two viruses belonging to the same corona family, which consists of at least five types of isoforms. These isoforms continue to divide, their effects were under investigation, he claimed.
He further explained that the difference might seem trivial, but when the vaccine would be generated to cure it, the result would more visible and have an impact on the COVD-19 found in Pakistan.
Referring to the research, Dr. Akram said that the research would be continued until it’s permanent to control it was not found as was a contagious virus.
The research for the coronavirus is being carried out at the center for Genome Research in Karachi which is a part of Karachi University’s International department.
According to Renowned Pakistani scientist, Prof. Dr. Attaullah, this research can help to control the epidemic in the coming days.
