KARACHI: In order to take sufficient steps in wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the local government in Karachi has decided to allocate four graveyards particularly for the burial of those who died from the coronavirus.
The decision was taken on Monday in a meeting chaired by Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, where steps were discussed to save the people from the spread of the coronavirus.
It was decided in the meeting for burial of coronavirus patient in the central district, Shah Mohammad graveyard will be reserved. For both west and central districts, Surjani Town’s graveyard will be allocated.
It was also decided that the bodies will be buried in Mowachgoth graveyard for districts south and west. While, Korangi No-6 graveyard will also be used for burial of people from the areas of Korangi and Malir.
The session also discussed that personal protective equipment will be given to the graveyard staff before any burial. The Sindh government officials will approach the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to get Personal Protective Equipment for graveyard staff.
Sindh government on Monday reported two more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the provincial tally to five.
Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho confirmed the two new deaths in metropolis. The patients were 52 and 66 years old and had been diagnosed with COVID-19 three days ago.
As per Sindh Health Department report, Karachi has 222 cases of the novel coronavirus, Dadu one and Hyderabad seven. 265 cases were detected in pilgrims quarantined in Sukkur upon return from Iran. Seven cases have been detected in Larkana. There are a total of 171 cases of local transmission.
