KARACHI: Taking advantage of the current state of emergency, Karachi’s road-cutting mafia has started excavation of roads.
Earlier, shops and offices in the city are closed as a precautionary measure to curb the outbreak of coronavirus nationwide.
According to sources, an official from city’s municipality named Samiuddin is involved in all the road-cuttings and is the caretaker of all the incidents and also responsible for the transactions of money.
Sources said that another official named Suleman Memon and new superintendent engineer Azahar Shah are also involved in illegal excavation of roads.
Sources further informed that more than 50 workers near Al-Zia colony of Solider Bazar – area of Karachi – are illegally cutting the road between UC 15 and 16.
Contractor has claimed that he has the NOC of Jamshed Town’s executive engineer. The public started to protest against the road cutting. Police also didn’t take action.
Earlier, Sindh government has imposed a ban on gathering of more than three people due to coronavirus.
The protesters said that even if the contractor has a road-cutting NOC, he should have waited for the excavation because the gathering of 50 workers can lead the spread of coronavirus.
