BEIJING: The death toll from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has gone up to 1,770 in China, with the total number of registered cases standing at 70,548, the National Health Commission said Monday.
The latest figures from the Chinese National Health Commission show that 10,844 people have recovered from the disease. Of the 57,934 who are currently being treated for caused by the new coronavirus, 10,644 are in serious condition.
Chinese officials have placed over 56 million people under quarantine, almost sealing off several cities from the rest of the country in an unprecedented effort to contain the virus.
On Sunday health authorities said that the death toll from the new coronavirus in the province stood at 1,696, while over 6,630 people have recovered in the province.
Health officials in China have introduced steps in a bid to stop the virus spreading, including a rule in Beijing requiring people coming to the capital to self-quarantine for 14 days.
