ISLAMABAD: As part of their national-level protests against the non-payment of outstanding dues a group of Pakistan Steel Mills retired employees observed a symbolic hunger strike outside the National Press Club at Islamabad.
A large number of retired workers organised a daylong sit-in outside the National Press Club to demand immediate clearance of their pending dues with retirement benefits.
Talking to journalists senior citizen, Muhammad Ismail Khattak said they served in the steel mills for many years in different capacities, but were not paid from June 3013. He informed the number of retired workers has reached 6,000 since 2013 but none of them has been given the dues.
The former employees of steel mill said the relevant officials had assured them to resolve the issue at the earliest but they did not take serious steps for the purpose.
They said due to the financial crisis the retired workers were unable to have treatment for ailments and to marry their children off.
They added several former employees were sole bread-earners of their families. The government officials, they said was not paying attention towards their problems
