Petrol prices today: Govt announces minor cut as consumers await relief

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a slight reduction in petroleum product prices, though consumers remain burdened by rates that soared in the aftermath of the Feb‑28 war. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the petrol prices have been reduced by 50 paise per litre, bringing the petrol prices today to Rs342.60.

Similarly, high‑speed diesel has been cut by 19 paise per litre, with the revised price now Rs371.61. The new rates will take effect from midnight and remain applicable for one day only.

Officials describe the adjustment as part of routine revisions under the government’s pricing mechanism.

However, analysts note that such nominal cuts offer little respite to households and businesses grappling with inflationary pressures.

Since the sharp escalation in global oil markets triggered by the Feb‑28 conflict, domestic fuel prices have remained far above pre‑war levels, eroding purchasing power and driving up transport and food costs.

Despite repeated government claims of relief measures, Pakistanis continue to face elevated fuel prices, underscoring the gap between policy announcements and the lived reality of consumers.
