ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said that as long as the federal government and state institutions stand united, there is zero tolerance or space for any conspiracy against the administration.
His remarks came in an apparent response to concerns expressed by leaders within his own party—Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)—including Javed Latif and Senator Nasir Butt, who raised apprehensions regarding a potential “conspiracy against the Nawaz Sharif government” following the Supreme Court’s order to transfer incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital.
Reacting to the celebrations among PTI ranks following the court directive, the Minister of State remarked that the opposition party had distribution of sweets premature, adding that “they should have waited a little longer before eating the sweets.”
Chaudhry emphasized that state governance cannot be dictated, reiterating that access to prisoners remains strictly governed by jail regulations and judicial oversight.
He further targeted PTI’s shifting stance on state institutions, noting that the party previously claimed to disavow the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Parliament, and the judiciary, yet was now displaying victory signs over the apex court’s ruling.
“We have no objection to providing facilities to any prisoner and never did,” Talal Chaudhry asserted, contrasting the current administration’s stance with past statements made by the PTI founder regarding incarcerated political opponents during his tenure as prime minister.
Reassuring party colleagues and the public, the league leader added that “as long as this couple stands on this pitch, there will be no conspiracy in this era.”
State Reaffirms Judicial Compliance
The Interior Ministry official’s statement adds a political dimension to the federal government’s official stance following earlier assurances by Federal Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who pledged that the administration would strictly implement the Supreme Court’s rulings “in letter and spirit.”
The judicial directives, issued by a three-member apex court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, ordered Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital—which is being designated a sub-jail under strict security protocols—until the next hearing on September 17.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court order followed heightened public debate over jail authorities’ medical reports regarding the former premier’s vital signs and required evaluations, as well as vocal demands from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and former Speaker Asad Qaiser for immediate hospitalization and restored family access.
While the apex court authorized the presence of Dr. Uzma Khan and personal physician Dr. Faisal Sultan alongside a specialized medical board, it strictly barred political parties from politicizing the former premier’s medical treatment or disturbing public order outside the facility.
