LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced it will hold a rally at Governor House Lahore at 8:00 pm tonight after authorities denied the party permission to stage its planned gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.
According to PPP officials, the party was unable to proceed with the Minar-e-Pakistan rally in Lahore and subsequently decided to shift its event to Governor House. The announcement was made on the same day that the administration moved to clear the earlier venue.
Officials from the Punjab Highways Authority (PHA) and the Punjab Police began removing PPP rally equipment from the Minar-e-Pakistan site, including stage structures, chairs, and lighting arrangements. The administration also started evacuating citizens present at or near the venue.
All doors of Minar-e-Pakistan have reportedly been closed to the public as authorities tighten access to the area. Meanwhile, PPP cadres have reportedly reached the site, with intentions stated as being to participate in the gathering, even as the party has claimed it plans to present itself for arrest.
The situation is being closely monitored by law enforcement as the PPP prepares to proceed with its Governor House rally later tonight.
