New gas production has begun from recently discovered wells in Dherki and Khairpur, Sindh, adding fresh volumes to Pakistan’s energy supply system, according to energy companies.
The developments are expected to boost the country’s gas output as both Mari Energies and the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) have started supplying production to national transmission networks.
According to Mari Energies, gas from the Shams-1 discovery in Dherki, Sindh, has been added to the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) network. Around 30 million cubic feet of gas per day has been injected into the system.
The Dherki lease is operated by Mari Development and Production Lease (MDPL), which also holds 100% working interest.
On the other hand, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has started gas production from the Suto-1 well located in Khairpur district of Sindh. About 6 million cubic feet of gas per day is being supplied to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network.
According to an OGDCL spokesperson, a 5-kilometre pipeline has been laid and connected to the Sinjhoro processing plant to supply gas to SSGC. After processing, the gas is being injected into the Sui Southern network.
Officials said production from the wells is expected to increase gradually in the future.
