Major gas reserves discovered in Sindh’s Ghotki

A new hydrocarbon reserves discovered at an exploratory well in Sindh, according to a filing submitted by Mari Energies Limited to the Pakistan Stock Exchange

The company reported that the find was made at the Shams-1 well, located in the Ghotki district. Drilling for the well began on January 30, 2026, and reached a total depth of 3,075 meters, targeting the Lower Goru-B sand formations.

Testing results showed a gas flow rate of nearly 48 million standard cubic feet per day, along with condensate output of 64 barrels per day. The well also recorded a stabilized wellhead flowing pressure of 2,404 psig.

Mari Energies, one of Pakistan’s leading exploration and production firms, noted that its exploration success rate stands at around 70%, significantly exceeding both domestic and global industry averages.

The company supplies energy to a range of sectors, including fertilizer producers, power plants, gas utilities, and refineries.
