Sikandar Sultan Raja confirmed as Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary committee has appointed Sikandar Sultan Raja, a retired bureaucrat for the post of new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari. The participants have also finalized names of Nisar Durrani from Sindh and Shah Muhammad Jatoi from Balochistan as members of the commission.  
Among the suggested names by the premier, the opposition parties had reached consensus on the name of Sikander Sultan Raja with the government.
In a previous meeting, the federal government and opposition agreed over choosing Sikandar Sultan Raja for the position of CEC.
During the Senate session, the parliamentary committee discussed names for the appointment of CEC and members of the ECP.
Both sides agreed on the names suggested for the vacant seats of ECP’s Sindh and Balochistan chapters, however, the name of CEC was undecided as the names of Babar Yaqoob and Fateh Muhammad were not withdrawn.
